In 1975 The Ringtown Woman's Club initiated the process to establish a public library in the Ringtown Valley. The club received many endorsements for the project, including the North Schuylkill School Board, the Ringtown Bicentennial Committee, local church groups, businesses and service organizations. A committee was formed to accept donated books and to hold limited hours. During 1975 and 1976 library hours were held weekly in the Ringtown Fire Hall. More than 6,000 books were stored over Ralph's Cafe on East Main Street while the committee searched for a permanent home for the new library.
Progress was made during 1976, with incorporation of the Ringtown Area Library Association on June 17th, a bicentennial dedication in August, and the purchase of the Pearl Stauffer property on West Main Street with Ringtown Bicentennial Funds. From 1977 until the grand opening of the library at 132 West Main Street on June 4th, 1979, the building was renovated to serve as a library. A grant from the Jeld-Wen Foundation funded materials and the SCAM program provided labor for the interior renovation. Meanwhile, individual and group volunteers completed most of the exterior renovation. In April and May of 1978, the Ringtown Borough and Union Township designated the Ringtown Area Library as their agent for library services.
By the late 1990's the library Board of Trustees recognized the need for more space to house the library's growing collection and allow for programs and activities. The Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library began raising funds for a library expansion project. Donations from local residents, businesses and organizations, plus fundraising efforts and a generous grant of $25,000 from the Jeld-Wen Foundation yielded more than $100,000 to fully fund the construction of a 1,000 square foot addition to the library and renovations to the existing building. Construction began in September 2002 and the library celebrated a Rededication and Open House on June 21, 2003.
